Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson

Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson was one of those middle of the road books that is so hard to review. I enjoyed it but found enough wrong with it that I can’t give it a glowing review. I did find the premise interesting and the characters compelling, but I also found that it was rather immature at times and repetitive. I also found that a lot of the plot was not explained which was a bit of a frustration, because it did have a lot of potential and Sanderson’s writing style is...well epic.

The Fifth Wave Series Review – Audiobooks

The Fifth Wave series starts out strong with the first book. In fact, The Fifth Wave, is one of my all-time favorite YA Apocalypse novels. In the first book the non-stop action, the intense character interactions and the unique perspective, paired with Yancy’s dedication to not hold back makes for a winner as far as books. Unfortunately, Yancy loses that fervor in the next books....

Mordacious by Sarah Lyons Fleming

A must read novel! Mordacious is the first in a new series, but an addition to Sarah Fleming's Until the End of the World series. Mordacious, takes us back to New York city and focuses on what "real life" survivors might have to deal with. In Mordacious you meet some new characters and some characters that were mentioned in the Until the End of the World series. I have high hopes for this new series and hope the culmination will be a huge plot arc that comes back to the original series.

Ash by Jaymin Eve & Leia Stone

The debut novel from Jaymin Eve and Leia Stone titled, simply, Ash, was an entertaining paranormal romance read. I purchased this book via audiobook, looking for something different, and think that having it on audiobook was the only reason I made it to the end. It was entertaining, yes, but original, it was not.

The Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard

The Glass Sword is book two in the Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard. The first book, Red Queen was a masterpiece, a must read if you have a thing for fantasy. The second book, Glass Sword, wasn’t quite as compelling as the first, but by the end had redeemed itself.

Soundless by Richelle Mead

PJV QUICKIE: I keep getting excited about the new books coming out from Richelle Mead. The variation in their topics is also pretty impressive. SOUNDLESS was intriguing, a fantastical setting with a diverse character, nice. I was drawn to the audiobook too, since it was narrated by Kim Mai Guest, who has a beautiful narration voice. This is one of the novels you have to be in the mood for....

Talon by Julie Kagawa #Audiobook Review

PJV QUICKIE: I’m always excited over a new Julie Kagawa release and TALON was a great Young Adult read but it didn’t blow me away. I prefer her darker, grittier type of novels and this one was a little more typical Young Adult fantasy for my taste. It was a good read, but it was very similar to other YA books in it’s genre that I was rather disappointed. I got a good read when...

The Well’s End – Written by: Seth Fishman Narrated by: Katie Schorr – Audiobook Review

PJV Quickie: I went into THE WELL’S END by Seth Fishman with a lot of anticipation. I had consistently read reviews and lists with THE WELL’S END listed as a must read in the genres of Young Adult, Fantasy, and Sci-Fi. Sounded like my kind of book. I was disappointed though as the book was interesting but didn’t live up to my expectations, coming in with a boring 3 star, it was okay but nothing...

Trial by Fire by Josephine Angelini #MustRead #Review

PJV Quickie: Already an established fan of Josephine Angelini, I didn’t think I would have any issues with her new series, TRIAL BY FIRE, I just didn’t expect it to be so different, so dark…the synopsis of this one does it no justice. TRAIL BY FIRE is a richly constructed and well-crafted Young Adult Fantasy novel that I was pulled into from the first sentence and wasn’t...
