The Pulse (The Pulse Trilogy #1) by Shoshanna Evers #Review

PJV Quickie: I gave this one 2-stars more for my credit than the books. I finished it. How or why I finished this book, I don’t know. So, I chalked it up for shock value alone. Obviously that cred should go to the book, 2-stars for the simple fact that you’ll definitely read something you’ve never read before. And hopefully will NEVER read again. Review: I don’t want to go into the choppy plot sequencing or the bad sentence structure, let’s just talk about the story, shall we? In THE PULSE by Shoshanna Evers, you are introduced to a...

Dead of Winter by Kresley Cole – Top Ten Reasons You Should Read the Arcana Chronicles + Discussion

I could regale you with my thoughts on this book, go into minute detail about what I thought about this entire point of the story, because it blew me away. If I graded this one on emotional reaction alone, this would get 6 stars. Cole knows how to torture readers. She’s so good at it, her nickname should not be Krazley it should be Eviley… okay that doesn’t sound as good. The reason I am giving it 4 stars though was because of the focus on love-triangle, which gets my girly-happy points revved, but it didn’t satisfy my intellectual...

The Witch of Painted Sorrows by M.J. Rose

PJV Quickie: I should probably preface this review with the fact that Historical Fiction/Romance is not my favorite genre. I don’t dislike the genre, but it’s not one of my favorites. You should only know this because maybe my disinclination for the genre painted the book in a bad light and you might enjoy it, but I don’t believe this is the case.  THE WITCH OF PAINTED SORROWS by M.J. Rose was a tough read. The book was slow, the characters were a bit inconsistent and the ending seemed really rushed and there wasn’t a very big conclusion that felt like the book...

Interview with Claire Legrand, Author of Winterspell

THE PJV: Thank you for the interview, Ms. Legrand. I have to start out by saying I’m a big fan of The Nutcracker and when I read the synopsis of your book, I was a little apprehensive. I mean The Nutcracker…but wow. I love when that happens. What inspired you to take this sweet battle of gingerbread men and mice and turn it into the steampunk, dark, young adult novel that it is? Claire Legrand: The story of The Nutcracker already has quite a bit of darkness to it. I mean, maybe it’s not so obvious when you go...

The Ascendant by Drew Chapman #Audiobook Review

PJV Quickie: Since I inherently have trust issues with the country of China, thanks in part to Fox News, Red Dawn and the fact that they’ve tried to hack my gmail account four different times – this book was a thriller! I now have very serious trust issues because of Mr. Chapman…because the book just made sense. This could happen and because it was so realistic it was even more thrilling. Not to mention the great characters which interacted in quirky and unpredictable ways. Review:  THE ASCENDANT by Drew Chapman is the series starter about an interesting character by...
