Michele Hauf Loves Her Vampires – Release Day Fun for WICKED SEDUCTION

GUEST POST

VAMPIRES. Vampires. VAMPIRES.

Michele Hauf, Award-winning author

14 March 2017

I have this thing about vampires. I know many readers do too. You see, I’ve been writing about vampires since the early 1990s. My first vampire romance, Dark Rapture, was published in 1997. And I haven’t been able to stop writing about those sexy, fanged creatures of the night since.

I currently write the majority of my paranormal stories in my world of Beautiful Creatures. But. Every once in a while, I have to mix things up. Try something new. So, when Tina Folsom invited me to write in her Venice Vampyr world, I leaped at the chance. It was an opportunity to try a different kind of vampire on the page (though not terribly different from my usual vamps) and to use a world that had already been established. And yet, I had complete freedom to make the vampire hero whomever I wished him to be, and to give him a life and trials and tribulations as I saw fit. The heroine was my own creation too. As well, as the story, their fun and flirtatious love affair, and everything else you see on the page. And I had a great time doing it! This may actually be the first heroine I’ve written who has an extreme problem with fainting at inappropriate times. Had so much fun with her.

And let me just say that I channeled my alter ego, Michele Renae, for the sex scenes. This story is a touch spicier than my usual para-roms, and just dips a toe into the erotic. So I hope you’ll give it a read and that you will love the characters as much as I do!

This is the 5th book in the Venice Vampyr series, a world created by Tina Folsom. This is the 1st book written by Michele Hauf in this world.

Blurb: Venice, Italy – early 1800s Vampire Marcello Sebastiani has enough on his plate with the city of Venice demanding his birth records to prove ownership of his centuries-old palazzo. The last thing he needs is a headstrong yet delicate Englishwoman bulldozing her way into his life and manipulating his every action. No matter how delectable she may be. Jane Emery has fled an abusive situation in hopes of pursuing her musical studies, but when she arrives in Italy, she finds that her patron has passed, leaving her desperate and lost. Thankfully, she is able to coerce a handsome yet mysterious stranger into helping her. Only her machinations don’t take into consideration his tantalizing touches that make her forget her plans and dream of a future she shouldn’t. When Jane’s past catches up to her, Marcello is determined to protect the one thing that has come to mean more to him than his own life. But will he be successful, or will the dark force that seeks Jane have better aim?

Mystery & Thrillers

Detectives David Murphy and Laura Rossi are charged with the investigation of the murder of a student at the City of Liverpool University. Attached to her body is a letter from her killer, which details a famous unethical psychological experiment—an experiment that the killer had replicated on the victim, resulting in her death. Convinced at first that the murderer is someone close to the victim, Murphy and Rossi dismiss the letter as a bid to throw them off the scent—until more bodies are found, each with their own letter attached.

When it becomes apparent that each victim has ties to the university, the detectives realize they’re chasing a killer unlike any they’ve hunted before—one who doesn’t just want his victims’ bodies, but their minds as well. As they rush to prevent any more deaths, they are forced to delve into the darkest channels of psychological research in an attempt to understand the motives of the madman.

But to achieve these aims, sidhe-seers, the Nine, Seelie, and Unseelie must form unlikely alliances and make heart-wrenching choices. For Barrons and Jada, this means finding the Seelie Queen who alone can wield the mysterious song, negotiating with a lethal Unseelie prince hell-bent on ruling the Fae courts, and figuring out how to destroy the Sinsar Dubh while keeping Mac alive.

On a planet where violence and vengeance rule, in a galaxy where some are favored by fate, everyone develops a currentgift, a unique power meant to shape the future. While most benefit from their currentgifts, Akos and Cyra do not—their gifts make them vulnerable to others’ control. Can they reclaim their gifts, their fates, and their lives, and reset the balance of power in this world?

Cyra is the sister of the brutal tyrant who rules the Shotet people. Cyra’s currentgift gives her pain and power—something her brother exploits, using her to torture his enemies. But Cyra is much more than just a blade in her brother’s hand: she is resilient, quick on her feet, and smarter than he knows.

Akos is from the peace-loving nation of Thuvhe, and his loyalty to his family is limitless. Though protected by his unusual currentgift, once Akos and his brother are captured by enemy Shotet soldiers, Akos is desperate to get his brother out alive—no matter what the cost. When Akos is thrust into Cyra’s world, the enmity between their countries and families seems insurmountable. They must decide to help each other to survive—or to destroy one another.

Scarlett has never left the tiny island where she and her beloved sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.

A Diverse Read That Takes a Bit of Patience to Read…Finding Gideon

Finding Gideon was marketed as a stand-alone, even though there are more stories in this series, and technically it is, but I did feel that I fell feet first into a story that I wasn’t ready for. I think it had to do with the main POV in the beginning which was Medianoche, which starts out in a place I didn’t want to be. I didn’t like him, I didn’t want to read about him…and it kept increasing.

10 Surprises About The Assignment
by
Jade A. Waters

I rarely watch the “Special Features” on the DVDs I get, but when I do, I enjoy discovering the big reveals from the director, actors, or crew members the most. Recently, I shared 10 interesting facts about my new release, The Assignment—but today I thought I’d give you some details that are a little more surprising. Some were surprises for me when I wrote the book; others are more behind-the-scenes surprises for readers. Either way, I hope you find them interesting!

1. By accident, the last scene almost wasn’t a last scene.

I’m an extremely linear writer…and by accident, I wrote the last two or three pages before I yanked my fingers off the keyboard and said out loud, “Oh, crap. That’s the supposed to be the end! Right there!” I had to stew for a while on how I wanted to deal with that, because it definitely needed to be the last scene.

2. The novel was written in seven weeks, including outlining.

I had several days off in a row at one point during the five weeks it took to do the actual drafting, so that was helpful—but I was putting down around 5,000 words a day (that’s approximately 20 pages). I have rarely, if ever, repeated that number of words in a day before or after for anything else I’ve written. I don’t even think I’ve pulled that off for a short story…

3. The draft of The Assignment was also started on the heels of one of the most painful breakups of my life.

They say the best way to get over someone is to get under someone else. While I agree that can be helpful, I think getting into the heads of an entire book’s worth of someone elses might be far more healing. I had a lot of pent up energy to work with!

4. We’ve billed The Assignment as my debut novel, but it definitely isn’t my first novel.

I have also written a couple young adult novels, back when I was a young adult. As an actual adult, though, I’ve written a romantic fantasy and a comedic memoir. I’m not sure if either of them will ever meet the public…but maybe, one day, that memoir will surface. (If you’re curious about how I finally officially made my way over to erotica, you can read my journey here.)

5. As much as I love Dean Sova, the romantic interest in The Assignment, I have at times wanted to smack him.

A couple friends who have worked beside me will attest that “I love this man but if I were to make out with him, I swear I might smack him a second later” has come out of my mouth one or two times. (It’s not you, Dean. It’s me.)

6. Dean was named Griffin throughout the entire outlining process.

Then my mom teased me about it in a conversation about my book-to-be, because she thought it was too much of a go-to romantic lead name. But I persisted…until I started drafting and Dean opened his mouth. That second, he was clearly a Dean. (Another fun fact: his original last name was Faustin, but this was so not Croatian sounding to me.)

7. Speaking of Dean’s Croatian roots…these are apparently thanks to my long running affection for Goran Višnjić and some incredibly handsome men I met on a vacation in Rovinj, Croatia.

Sure, Višnjić has been in my head since Madonna’s “Power of Goodbye” video (never mind all those episodes of ER), but I didn’t realize how into Croatian features I was until I got back from a Rovinj trip that happened not three months before I started The Assignment, and, bam. Some of the beauty I saw there was suddenly transferring into my book. Hello, handsomes.

8. Selby’s domestic nature, as well as Alex’s speech patterns and handyman awesomeness, are modeled after two incredibly dear friends of mine.

Okay, so this isn’t surprising. But what I do find surprising is that these two VIPs have never met in real life, yet through multiple conversations, all three of us are 100% sure they’d be an absolute fail as a couple.

9. The sex club scene was rewritten three or four times.

Each time, Dean’s role changed dramatically. I’m finally happy with how it turned out. Oh and fun fact—the club’s layout is a blend of two real sex clubs located in San Francisco.

10. I cry every time I finish reading this book.

Which, considering all the drafts, edits, and proofs of this story, is a lot. I guess we know where Selby got her sappiness from. 🙂

The Playlist for To the Edge

hearts

If you’ve ever followed my posts before, you know that my playlists are not so much about what music I’m listening to or when. They’re about the characters, which songs make me think of them in the story, which songs somehow reflect their emotions as they move through the story.

The playlist that I’ve put together to celebrate the release of To the Edge follows on that tradition. To the Edge, just out from Carina Press, is the second chance love story of Noah Blake and Clara Luz, the sexiest, naughtiest, kinkiest novel I’ve written yet. The premise goes something like this: In order to learn about kink, Clara had to learn the ropes, but she never expected to be so compromised she’d need rescue by none other than Noah Blake, the first man she ever loved, the ex-SEAL who almost destroyed her, the wounded warrior determined to reclaim her heart and fight for redemption to the very edge of sexual obsession.

These songs take you through the emotional journey of Clara and Noah. Below I also share with you some of my favorite lines from some fabulous song writers.

Enjoy!

AdM

Clara:

“Girl on fire” by Alicia keys

She’s just a girl, and she’s on fire
Hotter than a fantasy, longer like a highway
She’s living in a world, and it’s on fire
Feeling the catastrophe, but she knows she can fly away
Oh, she got both feet on the ground
And she’s burning it down
Oh, she got her head in the clouds
And she’s not backing down

Written by Alicia Keys, Jeff Bhasker, Salaam Remi, William H Squier.

Noah:

“Radioactive” by Imagine demons

I’m waking up to ash and dust,
I wipe my brow and I sweat my rust,
I’m breathing in, the chemicals.
I’m breaking in, shaping up, then checking out on the prison bus.
This is it, the apocalypse, whoa.

Written by Alexander Junior Grant, Daniel Coulter Reynolds, Daniel Wayne Sermon, Benjamin Arthur Mckee, Joshua Francis Mosser.

Clara:

“A Thousand Years” by Christin Perri

I have died everyday, waiting for you
Darling, don’t be afraid, I have loved you for a thousand years
I’ll love you for a thousand more.

Written by Dwayne Carter, Theron Thomas, Timothy Thomas, Lukasz Gottwald, Henry Russell Walter, Toni Tennille.

Noah:

“Locked Away” by Adam Levine

If I got locked away
And we lost it all today
Tell me honestly, would you still love me the same?
If I showed you my flaws
If I couldn’t be strong
Tell me honestly, would you still love me the same?

Written by Dwayne Carter, Theron Thomas, Timothy Thomas, Lukasz Gottwald, Henry Russell Walter, Toni Tennille.

Clara:

“If I Could Turn Back Time” by Cher

If I could turn back time
If I could find a way
I’d take back those words that’d hurt you
And you’d stay
If I could reach the stars
I’d give ’em all to you
Then you’d love me, love me, like you used to do
If I could turn back time

Written by Diane Warren.

Noah:

“Talking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran

So baby now
Take me into your loving arms
Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars
Oh darling, place your head on my beating heart
I’m thinking out loud
That maybe we found love right where we are.

Oh maybe we found love right where we are
And we found love right where we are.

About To The Edge

To learn about kink, she had to learn the ropes. Yet she never expected to be so compromised she’d need rescuing. And by him. The first man she’d ever loved. The former navy SEAL who’d broken her heart.

Clara’s gone wild.

Naked. Cuffed. Caged. Is this the sweet senator’s daughter I left behind?

I didn’t know it was her when I rushed into that room filled with flames, but I’ll never let her go again.

She’s proposed a unique way to thank me. It could bring us both to the edge of ecstasy—or to the point of no return.

Clara wants to submit. To me. Totally. Damn any limits. The very thought of it has brought me back from the dead.

But a stranger is watching from the shadows. He’s made us his fantasy. And he plays rougher than I do. Where he’s taking us now is somewhere so dark, and so dangerous, that this time it could be inescapable.

Case # 2 of the Karma Incorporated Series.

Karma does have a list…and Cassidy Hail is currently working on it.

Working for Karma Incorporated might sound like the best job in the world, but there’s one really big catch: you’ve got to die to get it. Cassandra Mercier died at the ripe old age of twenty-one and is now gainfully employed by the Afterlife Corporation as a Karma operative. She’s taken on the persona of Cassidy Hail and she’s going undercover to deliver some much needed cosmic payback. Her next target is a Shark.

Phillip Liam Nixon. Millionaire. COO of Butterfield Advertising Group. Chronic gambler, chronic womanizer and part-time embezzler. He’s going down and Cassidy’s the one who’s going to help him on his way. That’s if she can manage her own afterlife in the process, which is now brimming with Gods and Goddesses she didn’t know existed, an overly curious investigator who has his sights set on Cassidy, and the budding suspicion that something isn’t quite normal about the way she died.

Welcome to the Afterlife Corporation, where the currency of choice is souls…
