PJV Quickie Review

This is my first book by Shelly Laurenston and she’s now officially an author to watch. Laurenston’s writing is filled with quick wit and   robust world-building that grabs your attention and sucks you in.

The Undoing is the second book in the Call of Crows series by Shelly Laurenston. I didn’t realize it was book two when I requested it, but I didn’t have any issues with it being a second in series, but I wish I would have read the 1st one — first.

Laurenston introduces a mythological Norse based world. Ruled by the viking gods and enforced by intense humans that were given special powers. There are two sects in this books, the Crows, which are the females and the Protectors, the Crows enemies.

Jace Berisha is a Crow and Ski Eriksen is a Protector. Jace speaks Russian which Ski needs…and they have to work together to prevent Ragnarok. Jace is a completely crazy Crow, a bezerker who lets her rage take her over. Her level-headed (hopeful) love interest, Ski is a book nerd that just wants to get his books translated. The fun thing is – you can’t really see them coming together. The Romance is a little light, so you’ll have to like big fantasy worlds to get into this.

Overall, a good book and if you are into Urban Fiction and Fantasy – this is a great find. Go and read book one and you’ll have a new series to love.

I received this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

A risk worth taking…
No one would ever accuse Jace Berisha of having an easy life—considering her husband…you know…killed her. But that was then! Now she fights for mighty Viking gods with the spectacular and vicious Crows.   But things are turning very bad, very quickly because a vengeful, ancient goddess has come into the world with just one thing on her mind—ending it. And the only way they can hope to stop her is if the Crows join forces with their one-time enemies, the Protectors. A Viking Clan created to do nothing but kill every Crow they see.   Thankfully, Protector Ski Eriksen is a peace loving kind of guy. Because the woman he is desperately trying to get close to is the beautiful and not-very-chatty Jace. Battling Nordic clans? Unkillable goddesses? Jace’s mean-spirited dog? None of these things would ever get in the way of a true Viking!

Your FIRST Laurenston book?! What?! I’ve read her Magnus Pack and most of the Pride series (I need to catch up on that one). I have the first book in this series on audio but haven’t listened to it yet.

OMG..you have to read her Dragonkin series (written as G.A. Aiken) and her Pride and Pack series…absolutely hilarious and so well written

I have to agree with Patti. Shelly Laurenston is an auto-buy author for me too. I’ve read all but one book, which I’m getting as an audio review at the end of the month. I’m also almost caught up with her other pen name, G.A. Aiken where she writes about DRAGONS. I love her writing. It is so much fun. She is a go-to author if I’m down and need a pick-me-up. Her shifter books are great because she has animals that you don’t normally see as shifters. There are wild dogs, honey badgers and even a panda.

Girl, you’ve got to read her other books – she’s an auto-buy author for me. I love this new series, and if you like the over-the-top fun and sexy writing style, try some of her other Pack books. They’re book crack.
