Day 2. Great Things in Blogging 2015.

When I made this topic, my first thought  was, ‘I’m not going to have many things to say.’ But, of course I was making it all about me. My blogging year hasn’t really been that epic. I’ve actually put it on “low-key” mode because of so many outside responsibilities. But, there has been some cool things that have happened in blogging in general which I thought I would focus on. And I have to preface this with – it might not be a good thing, but it’s still a “great” event that happened, so I had to document it. In the words of Ollivander “After all, He Who Must Not Be Named did great things – terrible, yes, but great.”

  1. A app called Periscope got really big. You can now live stream your life…it’s going to change blogging. I thought this was one of the coolest social media advancement this year. Look for it on Facebook though, not through random extra apps. 😀
  2. Facebook has actually made a comeback in 2015, which wasn’t expected. Emphasis on Facebook groups and events with kick-backs to the blogs is very exciting!
  3. Book Bloggers don’t want to be book bloggers anymore. This one is a fun trend. Because, a lot of book bloggers are killing their “books only” persona and just going with it. They are merging all their loves together and becoming lifestyle bloggers. It’s fun to watch. Some have failed, some have flourished.
  4. Amazon started giving bloggers this message and the WORLD FREAKED OUT… some great posts came out teaching us how to unlink our accounts with amazon because of it. Mostly they just got authors all freaked out that their biggest fans wouldn’t be able to post reviews and sparked new ways of “getting around the system.”

  5. They have this artist called MadHat Creative  that has been all over the book blogging world in 2015 cause it’s the best thing since ever. It might not be about blogging, but it makes book bloggers happy.
  6. Another new app called Hyper came out – and it’s worth checking out. Considered one of the “future” social media stars, Hyper is Instagram meets Reddit. They need to get their act together though – currently you can only get it on iOS.
  7. Bears in pools were huge!

  8. Everyone seems to have thought about quitting blogging in 2015, or have actually quit. Even the QUEEN of mommy blogging, Dooce quit in 2015. But, for us, everyday people, I think we all just need to integrate new outcomes and mediums. {typical post}
  9. In general I think blogging in 2015 became very commercial. We’ve been bitching about the influx of bloggers turned tour companies, and editors and PR people and designers and well anything that makes money…which seemed to blow up in 2015. Every blog seems to be offering a service. Is this a bad thing? I don’t think so. But, I do think that there might be a bit of emphasis on non-commercial blogging in the future. Less author promotion focused and more reader focused. Or at least I hope so.
  10. Goodreads changed its font and freaked everyone out!
  11. Amazon started paying Kindle Unlimited authors differently which had another author freak-out happen and luckily started diminishing a lot of book scams out there. Now the author actually wants you to finish their book…a good thing for readers.
  12. New Creative Outlets for book blogging has taken light…I’ve seen an emphasis on minimalistic blogs (love that) and more photo-based posts, even in book reviews. A cut down on animated gifs and in-your-face, overly-designed layouts. I love this trend btw.

Overall, I think 2015 has been a crazy year. I think it has been a hard year. There have been some terrible tragedies and I can tell that the majority of us are feeling the pain of the slumped economy. But, luckily the majority of us in this crazy blogger and social media world have kept it positive. Or maybe I’ve just been ignoring the drama 😀

Happy New Year! C’mon, join the fun! Add your link to the linky code so we can visit and share.

    I agree that this was a hard year. And I was one of the people freaked out when Goodreads changed the font look.

    This is such a great post. I haven’t really blogged since the summer yet I can’t shut my blog down. I will have to look into the new apps and especially Periscope.
