PJV Quickie: I don’t really have a definitive feeling about Thea Harrison and her writing, some books I like, others, not so much. But, mainly they are a middle of the road type of recommendation for me. Her eighth book in the Elder series, MIDNIGHT’S KISS just bored me, competent read, but nothing I could get excited about.
REVIEW: This is a hard one to describe since it’s 8th in the series. You have Julian – King of the Nightkind and then you have Melly, who is like the Princess of the Light Fae, who have a preexisting relationship. They tried to deny their association and past, but war breaks out and the two are forced to face each other when Melly is kidnapped. Melly doesn’t think Julian could care less about her, but when he sacrifices himself for her release and they BOTH end up in enemies hands it becomes obvious that he’s still hot for her.
I think it was part pre-existing feeling and the other part “captive and forced together” that had me not enjoying this book as much as I’ve enjoyed others in Harrison’s repertoire. Those are just two items that I don’t enjoy in books, so frankly – if you like PNR and you aren’t as judgmental and picky as I am – you’ll enjoy this one. Harrison’s writing is good, her ideas are creative, she has good world-building and her heroes are very sexy. This is a good series for Paranormal Romance fans, this particular book just didn’t do it for me. Which happens in PNR series – you just don’t get into those particular characters.
Recommendation: For fans of Harrison’s series – read on…for fans of PNR start at book one, this is a good series to add to your shelves.
I received this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
