2052: Spurred in part by the obvious threat of a manufactured army—China rightly recognizes that nobody builds a million-soldier army unless they intend to use it—the Isolation War finally heats up, erupting in a number of violent conflicts. Human soldiers flood in from NADI, Brazil, and the Eurasian States, and production of Partial soldiers is accelerated. Thanks in large part to the worldwide lack of raw resources, there are no large fleets of advanced weapons or vehicles, and the war is fought in an almost archaic style, reminiscent of the massive troop movements of World War II.

2053: The lack of snow or winter weather continues to alarm scientists around the world, but there is little opportunity to do anything about it. A ParaGen scientist claims to have a solution, but in the midst of the war and the building of the Partial army, there is simply no time to work on it.

2055: After several years of testing and fine tuning, ParaGen creates the first official Partial soldiers. They immediately begin training in both tactics and combat, and when the next generation is “born” the first generation trains them in the things they just learned. Military culture is used as a societal bracket to provide a sense of identity and responsibility, which combines with their engineered “conscience” to keep the Partials obedient and loyal.

The human race is all but extinct after a war with Partials—engineered organic beings identical to humans—has decimated the population. Reduced to only tens of thousands by RM, a weaponized virus to which only a fraction of humanity is immune, the survivors in North America have huddled together on Long Island while the Partials have mysteriously retreated. The threat of the Partials is still imminent, but, worse, no baby has been born immune to RM in more than a decade. Our time is running out.

Kira, a sixteen-year-old medic-in-training, is on the front lines of this battle, seeing RM ravage the community while mandatory pregnancy laws have pushed what's left of humanity to the brink of civil war, and she's not content to stand by and watch. But as she makes a desperate decision to save the last of her race, she will find that the survival of humans and Partials alike rests in her attempts to uncover the connections between them—connections that humanity has forgotten, or perhaps never even knew were there.

Kira Walker has found the cure for RM, but the battle for the survival of humans and Partials is just beginning. Kira has left East Meadow in a desperate search for clues to who she is. That the Partials themselves hold the cure for RM in their blood cannot be a coincidence—it must be part of a larger plan, a plan that involves Kira, a plan that could save both races. Her companions are Afa Demoux, an unhinged drifter and former employee of ParaGen, and Samm and Heron, the Partials who betrayed her and saved her life, the only ones who know her secret. But can she trust them?

Meanwhile, back on Long Island, what's left of humanity is gearing up for war with the Partials, and Marcus knows his only hope is to delay them until Kira returns. But Kira's journey will take her deep into the overgrown wasteland of postapocalyptic America, and Kira and Marcus both will discover that their greatest enemy may be one they didn't even know existed.

Kira, Samm, and Marcus fight to prevent a final war between Partials and humans in the gripping final installment in the Partials Sequence, a series that combines the thrilling action of The Hunger Games with the provocative themes of Blade Runner and The Stand.

There is no avoiding it—the war to decide the fate of both humans and Partials is at hand. Both sides hold in their possession a weapon that could destroy the other, and Kira Walker has precious little time to prevent that from happening. She has one chance to save both species and the world with them, but it will only come at great personal cost.
