Manhattanites Tour Badge Tall alt Avery Aster joins us today to talk about Unscrupulous the second installment in The Manhattanites series.

Let’s welcome Avery Aster to Parajunkee’s View…

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Sure, I’m thirty-something. I’ve lived in New York City since the late ’90’s. I went to New York University and studied communications. I keep my eye cream in the fridge and I’m elated to have three full length novels coming out this year.

Give us some insight into The Manhattanites?
It’s focused on four best friends. They are a fierce bunch of outspoken, successful, wealthy, vulnerable, and at times egotistical people who work in the fashion-beauty world. Most of them are either working at Brill, Inc., a multi-media firm in Times Square, or are clients of Brill, Inc. All of the characters are connected to one another as several of them grew up together and attended The Avon Porter Academy as teenagers. The novels celebrate their experiences while they holiday, climb the corporate ladder, and pursue love-especially revealing what goes on in their bedrooms.

Reviewers note that your supporting cast adds depth to the story. They don’t detract from the core romance of each novel. Can you tell us about the characters in your series? Who is your favorite?
Tabitha “Taddy Brill” Adelaide Brillford: (27) an obsessive masturbator who is Lex, Vive and Blake’s lifelong friend. She’s a self-made millionaire and owns Brill, Inc.
Alexandra “Lex” Easton: (27) fashion designer to the stars and founder of Easton Essentials. She’s the late rock-n-roll legend Eddie Easton’s daughter.
UnscrupulousCardSixBlake Morgan III: (27) a gay, gorgeous top who is estranged from his husband. He co-founded Brill, Inc. and is the brains behind many of Taddy’s accounts.
Viveca “Vive” Farnworth: (28) a party girl who met Lex, Taddy and Blake in boarding school. Vive is the editor-in-chief of Debauchery Magazine and liquor heiress.
When I wrote Undressed #1, I thought Lex was my favorite then I wrote Taddy’s story for Unscrupulous #2 and loved her a little bit more. Now that I’m just finishing up with Blake’s book titled Unsaid #3, my heart bled for him. His backstory and what happened to him during his marriage is so painful that I naturally have empathy for him. But Vive, the pill popping drunk in the series I have a feeling is the heroine that’s going to steal my heart for good. Her story is one that I’ve been saving. It’s going to take some serious courage (and Vive’s sobriety) for me to get Uncensored #4 finished. That one is due out next year.

What makes The Manhattanites different from other erotic romances out there in the same genre?
I try really hard not to write to trend which can be both good and bad. Bad in the sense that I have no idea if readers will want the story when it’s done, but good because I’m writing the types of novels I want to share and not what the market is dictating. Sure, we have certain rules like a happy ending or an open bedroom door, but The Manhattanites isn’t about sex contracts, or Dom’s looking for virgins or ménage with two brothers, and there’s nothing wrong with that, it’s just not what The Manhattanites series is based on. Also, each book is full length, around 80,000 words or higher, they all have an HEA. There are no cliffhangers. They are not serialized and there are no novellas.
Each novel has tons of glitz, glamour and sex. The stories are juicy, modern, and jet setting. The Manhattanites will do whatever it takes to get what they want. Yes…let your mind set with that one for a second.

Who would like The Manhattanites?
Anyone who enjoys plots that feature blackmail, money, reversals of fortune, compromising positions–often sexual, and tons of secrets. My readers watch TV shows like Revenge, Dynasty and Gossip Girl.

What is the series based on?
Friendship. These characters grew up together, they work and play together. Dark secrets, huge fears and a yearning for sexy things make them a go a li’l cray-cray. They are looking for love and support one another during their journey.

TheManhattanitesCardWhat led to you to Ellora’s Cave?
After a decade of reading Lora Leigh, Jaid Black and Evangeline Anderson I knew I wanted to write for them and no one else.

Is writing your full time profession?
I wish. LOL! I write both morning and night but I have a day job that keeps me on my toes.

What must you have close by when writing?
Jelly beans! I love sugar even if it’s not Easter season. But when I crash, that’s usually when I’m struggling with a scene and then I switch to coffee or Diet Pepsi. For some reason I don’t write very well when eating vegetables. *scratches forehead*

Who are some of your favorite authors?
I tend to go for the ’80’s bonkbuster authors like Judith Krantz, Judith Michael and Judith Gould. I think the first name “Judith” must’ve been a popular penname back then. Ha! I still enjoy my classics like Danielle Steel and Jackie Collins. I try not to read erotic romances when I’m writing but when I’m in promo mode like I am now for Unscrupulous I usually devour CD Reiss, Lynda Chance, Nicole Edwards, and R.K. Lilley.

What are you reading now?
CC Gibb’s All He Wants. I love me some Susan Johnson.

Unscrupulous (#2 The Manhattanites)
Content Warning: due to graphic sex scenes, strong language, suggestive themes, mature humor, and just about everything your friends ever told you not to do–including getting vajazzled, this novel is for adults only.
At thirty-three Warner Truman is one of the richest men on the planet, a spa mogul who buys and sells resorts at will. He holds powerful executive’s careers in his well-groomed hands. Nothing is beyond Warner’s reach…until he meets her.
Stunning, tantalizing, and perverse, Taddy Brill captivates Warner’s carnal desire like no woman he’s ever met. A self-made millionaire, Taddy is tougher than steel, more brilliant than diamonds and, at twenty-seven, she’s never depended on a man for anything…until she meets him.
The more Taddy plays with Warner’s affections, driving him to erotic heights, the more she is confronted by a dark past. But before she can love him, Taddy must meet her worst fears head-on or risk losing it all, including herself

Undressed (The Manhattanites #1) is regularly priced at $8.75 and will have an amazing 65% off the retail price at $2.99 from August 14th, the same day that Unscrupulous (The Manhattanites #2) launches, until August 27th.
