PJV Quickie: It’s about time someone wrote a Highlander Time Travel romance in the young adult age range! Carey Corp and Lorie Langdon delivered up some kilty goodness with DOON! DOON was a yummy, swoon-worthy read that I could not get enough of!

Review: Two best friends, Veronica and Mackenna have been separated by consequences, but Mackenna’s relentlessness allows the two of them to spend the summer together in Scotland at Mackenna’s family home. Before the two girls even leave, Veronica starts seeing the image of a guy, a hot guy, in a kilt and for some reason she is inexplicably drawn to him. She knows the answers lay in Scotland…more specifically across the Bridge of Doon. Mackenna is not so inclined to the mythical, she thinks Veronica is under a lot of stress with her family issues and boyfriend troubles. Veronica is convinced that the guy is real and that something or someone is waiting for her on the other side of the bridge. As the two girls dig into the local legends about the Bridge of Doon, Veronica becomes more and more eager to venture into the fog and discover what is going on and why she keeps on seeing the kilted hottie.

If there is a bridge with hot guys in kilts…please show me the way! What girl wouldn’t want to cross a bridge and enter a fairytale land where two gorgeous princes awaited to change your life forever? They even have modern plumping! Every girls fantasy, right? Well, take a trip to DOON with Veronica and Mackenna and you won’t be disappointed!

The plot was gorgeously spun, each plot point a stepping stone to the next. I was sucked in to the story that Corp and Langdon created. I was also fascinated by the characters, it wasn’t an easy ride either, with them. At first I suspected the “fated mates” type of story-line, but the authors did not do this the easy way (you know, the two look into each other’s eyes and realize they are fated to be together). You doubted an HEA (Happily Ever After) at every moment, which added to the mystery and the high-intensity pacing of the novel. Plus, they threw a few plot twists in at the end that had me an emotional wreck.

But don’t let the “trite” plot fool you, the book might have had a Disneyesque feel, with a sexy highlander twist, but the characters had depth and the world-building was full of enough twists and turns to keep it interesting. This is the perfect escapist series, a fun fantasy that left me wanting more…so ladies please write faster. If you take away one thing from this review, DOON is a yummy Scottish fairy-tale, I wish I had a plaid lollipop to compare it too…do they make lollipops in plaid?

Overall, this is a PJV Top Rated title! A must read!
