Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I live in Southwestern Utah, only two hours from Sin City–a resonably safe distance. I love to do stuff outdoors, read a lot, play with my Chihuahua’s and of course, writing is my passion–indoors, outdoors, in the car, in bed..unless there’s something more interesting to do there.
In your own words, tell us a little bit about your book?
CHIHUAHUA MOMMA is about Rebecca Lee, a top notch dog trainer, She’s a widow with two teenage kids, and dating is the last thing on her busy mind–until football star, Matt Johnson walks through her door…
Can you tell us about the characters in your book? Who is your favorite?
Rebecca Lee–the heroine, thinks she wants to hide from life in her dog studio–boy is she wrong
Matt Johnson–he’s running from a bad relationship in Malibu and ends up in Jersey. Who would dump him? His body’s toned, he’s 40, and makes the sexy scale rocket to maximum. Then he goes to Rebecca’s house to buy a Chihuahua. A friend he can handle, but a relationship? Forget it.
Amanda Lee–A senior in high school. Thinks she knows it all, and the way Matt looks at her mother? It ain’t happening, dude.
Ryan Lee–Sophomore, a wide receiver on the football team. An ex-quarterback who played in the Rose Bowl? Bring it!
My favorite? Matt, hands down. He’s any girl’s dream of yummy!
What makes your book different from other books out there in the same genre?
CHIHUAHUA MOMMA is funny in places, serious in others. It takes readers into the realm of dog shows and gives a gives a glimpse of what it’s really like. Teenagers? Boy, they cause all kinds of problems. But despite all the odds, Rebecca and Matt…well…you know.
What led to you going “indie”?
Actually, this book is with a small press. I chose a small press for the editing, book cover, and their contacts with reviewers.
Is Writing your full time profession?
Do you have any quirks or processes that you go through when you write?
I am a plotter. I usually research and work on character development for a month before I write the first sentence.
Who are some of your favorite authors?
Jennifer Cruisie. Monica McCarty. Tessa Dare. Susan Mallery. Liz Fichera.
What are you reading now?
THE HUNTER by Monica McCarty (I also write Scottish Historicals, RESCUED BY THE CELTIC WARRIOR comes out August, 2014)
What advice can you give to struggling writers?
Keep writing and keep learning. I take a lot of classes through RWA chapters. My first two novels never went anywhere, but were great learning tools. If you don’t have success with a manuscript, move on. I recently landed a New York agent (with novel #8). With every book, I get better. And yes there is a ton of rejection..so celebrate every small victory!
