Oh, the alpha male, how we love thee![frame align=”center”][/frame] Well, at least I know I do. I’m not sure why I love the alpha male like I do. For whatever reason, probably because I think they’re hot, alpha heroes always pour of me when writing a story. [frame align=”right”][/frame]What are some must-have alpha male qualities?
A high level of testosterone definitely has to lace the hero’s veins. You know the type of man who wouldn’t dare get a pedicure with you. He probably wouldn’t be caught dead wearing pink. And he’d definitely take a beer over a Piña Colada.
Alpha males tend to be a tad on the protective side of their leading ladies. I’ve always believed that’s what makes an alpha so appealing. What can I say—watching a man stand up for the woman he loves makes me melt. And even if the hero might respect that the heroine is kick-ass, they’ll have an incredibly deep desire to keep their lady safe.
In my newest release, WEREWOLVES BE DAMNED, the hero, Kyden, is the definition of the alpha-male. I think it’s important whenever writing these tough, chest-beating men to give them a soft side where it comes to their heroine. That’s what saves an alpha from being an overbearing douchebag.
While, yes, he might still want to do the caveman bit with his leading lady, he understands that his gal needs to be her own woman. Personally, it’s why I love matching strong heroes with equally strong heroines. I find the combination is both amusing and sexy! To see a man trying to dominate a woman who will have none of it, always gives me a good laugh.
What are some alpha male qualities we could do without?
An alpha male who is a push-over. Yes, I adore the big strong masculine types, but only when he’s paired with a woman who can dish it back. For me, there’s nothing worse than a man who thinks he should sit on top of the, I am so powerful, throne. Therefore, while I do write strong men, I always give my alpha males a few gentle qualities mixed in there too. A great sense of humor, a kindness toward others, fierce loyalty, or again, a soft spot for their leading lady, which all softens that strong edge.
Right down to it, I love a tough, manly-man, but he needs to have a sweet side that makes me want to smother him with kisses, too. So, you tell me, what do you love about the alpha male and what could you do without?

A Magic & Mayhem Novel
by: Stacey Kennedy
Publisher: Entangled Publishing
Release date: April 15, 2013
About the Book:
Nexi Jones—part witch, part guardian, and wannabe kick-ass warrior—can’t throw a punch or conjure the simplest magic. But that doesn’t stop her from hunting the werewolves who slaughtered her human family. She’ll have her revenge, but only if Kyden, the elite guardian, would get the hell out of her way.
Kyden can’t decide if Nexi wants to get herself killed or if she just has no clue what she’s doing. But her father made it clear: keep Nexi safe…or else. Of course, the more Nexi runs toward revenge, the more she needs Kyden’s aid, and as she grows into her power and confidence, so does his desire to protect her. The only problem? She’d rather he dropped dead.
But when a vampire paints a bull’s-eye on Nexi’s back, she’s hard-pressed to deny Kyden and the help he’s offering. Even if it means getting her revenge will be a little bit harder. At least it will still be as sweet.Goodreads Amazon AmazonB&NKoboiBooks
