Beautiful lonely girl in long dress Death has claimed a Socoli, but the family curse will not allow him to stay dead. Vanora and Alisha must battle the creature that stole their brother’s life while fearing the possible resurrection of Roman.

In Darkness We Must Abide is the epic saga of one young woman caught in the dangerous world of the creatures of the night.

Already living in the shadows due to her albinism, Vanora is just a little girl when her older brother inadvertently unleashes a terrible evil from the family crypt that changes their lives forever.

As she grows up in a world where beautiful deadly beings hunt by night, one captures her eye and her heart. Yet, can she trust the mysterious Armando? For there is a powerful entity plotting to claim her when she reaches adulthood in order to fulfill an ancient prophecy, and her enemy has enveloped her in a web of deceit, casting doubt on all she believes to be true. Lori’s thoughts:
In this episode we, the reader and Vanora, deal with a death in the family. The whole episode shows how Vanora’s life has changed, and her family coming to terms with this death.
Rhiannon manages to pack so much emotional punch in these short episodes. Roman’s funeral! Ahhh. It My heart breaks for Vanora, and Alisha. The fear of losing a loved one is tough, but add on to that the fear that they will come back a blood thirsty monster? Oh. Is the change really a bad one for Vanora? A little girl that already has to live so much of her life in the shadows, and so much loss? Well, yes losing loved ones is never easy, but Vanora is a tough girl who adjusts easily to so much in her short life. This episode was dark and wonderful. It’s got that haunting Rhiannon Frater feeling too it. Nothing is as it seems when Rhiannon is the one behind the pen. She drives her characters to the brink and then pushes them over it, all while keeping them humans. It’s everything that I have come to expect from her. I fear for Vanora. I have a feeling that she is going to keep having bad things happen to her. Now I have to admit. I am beta reading this serial for Rhiannon, so I am a few episodes a head than everyone else. Let me tell you, it only gets better!!!

This weeks discussion is Changes: and how we think they will effect Vanora?
Like I said in the review, Vanora has already spent so much of her life in the shadows. So living this life that she has now been given while is a change, isn’t so much different. She still has a family, and at this time in her life I think she is just happy for what she has managed to hold on to. However, I think the things/beings that come into her life as a result of Roman’s decision to unleash the monster will have a huge and ultimately negative impact on her. I can’t say much more without giving anything away. 😉
