(Forever and a Day is the last book in a trilogy set in Lucky Harbor  by Jill Shalvis.  It’s actually the 6th book in the Lucky Harbor series but they’re divided into two trilogies, if that makes sense. It can be read as a stand-alone)

Grace Brooks is a CPA who was downsized from her well-paying job.  After some difficulty in a tight job market, she was able to find another position, but didn’t care for the unwritten part of the job description (sexual favors for the boss) so she drove as far as her tank of gas would take her to decide what she wanted to do with her life.  Lucky for her, she ended up in Lucky Harbor.  Picking up odd jobs like flower-delivery and modeling for art class, she’s trying to figure out what she’s going to do if she can’t find another CPA job soon.

Josh Scott is a doctor at the local Emergency Room who’s also running his deceased father’s private clinic.  Known around town as Dr. McHottie, he has a son, Toby, an adorable, precocious five-year-old, and cares for his disabled 21-year-old sister Anna, who is sometimes referred to as the antichrist.  Josh has his hands full and no time for female companionship.  He needs a dog walker, and due to his crazy schedule at the hospital and clinic, he also a nanny for Toby.

I don’t think I have to point out the obvious conclusion here – Grace agrees to be Toby’s nanny until she can find a CPA position.  What I do need to point out is that the “getting there” is well worth the read.  Josh is such a workaholic and stressed about his job, the clinic, spending time with his son, and his sister’s bad attitude (and her dirtbag boyfriend). Grace steps in and immediately things start running smoother for Josh, which gives him a moment or two to realize he really likes Grace.  Grace, in turn, is discovering what a pretty awesome guy Josh (and his family) is (are).  Too bad neither of them want to get involved in a relationship…

Forever and a Day is such a delightful read!  Ms. Shalvis has written my favorite kind of book – the kind that makes me feel like part of the story; like I was there in the book, watching events unfold.  I loved all the characters – in addition to Dr. McHottie and Grace, whose chemistry is so hot it singed my fingers as I turned the pages, Josh’s son Toby was adorable, and his sister Anna brought some conflict to the story.  We also get the regular cast of Lucky Harbor characters withlively wit that adds humor and friendship (and a little sexy) to the story (my favorite is still Lucille, the octogenarian social butterfly and loveable busybody).  Reading Grace and Josh fight their attraction to each other while steadily falling deeper in love had me laughing, occasionally grumbling at the characters, and ultimately sighing in happiness.  I sincerely hope Ms. Shalivs has more books planned for this cute little town.
