PJV Quickie: It was recommended for my particular taste to start at book three in Karen Marie Moning’s Highlander series and I’m seriously glad that I did. KMM’s “less popular” series is a gem in Scottish hotness, especially if you go by way of the audiobook and experience the swoonworthyness that is Phil Gigante’s voice.

Review
Transported into almost instant action, Karen Marie Moning paints a picture of an ancient Scottish warrior and an item of great power that he has lost. Fortunately for him, before it was lost he put a curse on it that the first person that touches it will be transported back to him and he would kill them instantly, along with the artifact. Little did he know that it would take centuries for someone to lay their hands on it and that person would happen to be a cleaning lady in a museum who’s curiosity got the better of her.
The story of Circenn Brodie and Lisa will have you swooning and sniffling all over the place. Moning’s rich imagination and compelling writing style will suck you in immediately. Her knowledge of the intricacies of Scottish Highlander living will seem almost real, or at least it did to me, having really no working knowledge of life in middle ages Scotland.
If you are in the mood for some light, guilt pleasure reading, I suggest you check out Moning’s Highlander series. If you are more in the mood for paranormal flavoring, maybe like me you should start at book three also. There was really no reference to the prior two books in book three, so it is literally a stand-alone. I also like these books because it gives you a little more insight into the Highlanders which made a few bit appearances in the Fever series, along with a bit of background on Adam Black, who has always been a mystery.
Recommendations
Recommended for fans of Moning’s Fever series, paranormal romance fans and fans of historical fiction. It is an adults only read with sexual encounters of the Highlander variety.

I love his voice so much. I could listen to this entire series and the last two in Fever series all day, every day. I even bought the audio version of sex from Barron’s POV because Phil Gigante was his voice.
I’ve never read anything by Moning, but she’s been on my list forever. Maybe this review will get me to work on that! Thanks.
I only read the first two books in this series, but it sounds like I should make time to read the third book too!:)
Yes, they were very good 😉
I like the whole series, each for different reasons. Love Phil Gigante’s voice as narrator too 🙂
Yes, he has to be my favorite narrator. I think I’m more partial to male narrators also.
I have this whole series waiting for me to start it.
Recommended to start at book 3. Really?
Love the Team Highlander button. 😉
Yeah — it was Patti 😉 and thanks!
I read ‘Beyond the Highland Mist’ by her and that was pretty good.
I’m almost curious to go to book 1 — who knows.
From what I remember, books 1 and 2 are more like “PNR lite” and more old school, just in the way they read and the plots and all that. They weren’t bad books and I did enjoy them, but you’d never believe that the same author wrote those and then wrote the Fever books. Hooray for versatility!
