PJV Quickie: CHASING POWER by Sarah Beth Durst was a fun paranormal type of mystery, with a touch of romance and a lot of  fast-paced action. I enjoyed Durst’s latest novel and can’t wait to read more from this author.

Review: CHASING POWER focuses on main character Kayla, who was born with the ability to move things with her mind. Small things like credit cards and diamond rings. The perfect supernatural gift to perfect her career as a master thief. Everything is going perfect, a perfect bestie, a perfect hippie mom – a perfect future in crime, when she is busted by a boy name Daniel who has the ability to teleport. Daniel needs her help and isn’t afraid to blackmail her into helping her find his missing mother. Now the two are evading Kayla’s mom, teleporting around the globe and trying to figure out the mystery behind Daniels mother’s disappearance. Crazy mystery, wrapped in a paranormal storyline peppered with fun characters and insane antagonists, that about sums up CHASING POWER by Sarah Beth Durst.

I had a blast reading CHASING POWER and I think you’ll enjoy it if you like young adult novels with light paranormal themes. The mystery was also nice and tight and I was surprised with the ending reveal. Love that! Overall a great novel and one I recommend. There were some issues, especially with the antagonists. When all was revealed, they were quite insane – but a little too much…which gave it a very immature feel, more on lines with Middle Grade then Young Adult. But, it was, again, fun to read.

Recommendations: I’ve seen this book described as Indiana Jones meets Jumper – which is a great analogy. If you love those types of books/movies, you should enjoy Chasing Power. Again, more of a younger flavor, so pushing more toward a tween readership.
