I’m The Geeky Junkee, and I like to talk about those things that freak my geek. Join me on Fridays to talk about the awesome things.
Is there a difference between a favorite book and a favorite audiobook? I would say yes. I think that a narrator can make or break an audiobook. I can love a book, but then hate its audiobook because of the narrator. A big one for me is breathing. For instance, I can’t listen to the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher because the narrator has audible breathing and mouth sounds. I tried listening to Storm Front and it drove me insane. I had to DNF it. I doubt I would DNF the actual book. Some narrators, on the other hand, help teleport you into the world of your favorite books and here are some of my favorites.
Top Five Narrators:
1. Renee Raudman
Series: Kate Daniels by Ilona Andrews
2. Lorelei King
Series: Charley Davidson by Darynda Jones and Mercy Thompson by Patricia Briggs
3. Amanda Ronconi
Series: Nice Girls and Naked Werewolf by Molly Harper
4. Jennifer Ikeda
Series: All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness
5. Khristine Hvam
Series: Jane Yellowrock by Faith Hunter
Tavia Gilbert: Though this narrator did not make my top five, I love the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost, and I have all of the audiobooks. There is some debate on the voice Tavia Gilbert uses for Bones. Some people completely hate it. It doesn’t really bother me. In fact, I never thought about it until others told me that they hate it.
In celebration of awesome narrators, we’re giving away one digital download of the Once Burned audiobook written by Jeaniene Frost and narrated by Tavia Gilbert. This is Vlad and Leila’s story in the Night Huntress World. I love this book. Leave a comment below to enter the contest. One winner will be selected on 8/8/2014 using random.org. We will announce the winner on this post. We will email the winner the instructions on how to download the audiobook.
Erin F. is the Winner! Congratulations!
